Mask Mandate is an Insult to All of Us
Whether you would prefer to wear a mask,
not wear a mask, or are somewhere in between, the very existence of a “mandate” is an insult to us all.
We get asked frequently about our position on mask-wearing and it’s simple. We are standing for the very inalienable rights of an individual as recognized in the Declaration of Independence “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” What many say is “just a mask” actually represents a new channel of control–the direct imposition of authority from the State to the Self. It even mandates compulsion on children as young as 5, bypassing parental rights.
We stand for the right of an individual to choose whether to cover their face or not. With 7.6 million residents in Washington, certainly, there are 7.6 million different circumstances to factor in as to whether an individual should wear a facial covering or not. A blanket mandate from the Governor is an insult and an override to the good judgment of each individual, family, and business.
We were originally told that wearing a mask was a sign of compassion for others, showing that you were being responsible and didn’t want to risk infecting others. Most people started wearing masks at this point and were certainly acting out of the kindness of their hearts. However, this act of kindness is nullified by the “mandate” since it no longer represents a choice. The mandate turns the wearing of a mask into a symbol of submission rather than an act of kindness. Mask wearers and non-mask wearers should be united in demanding a repeal of the mandate.
Supporting this is the actual wording of the mandate which simply requires a “cloth facial covering.” This is satisfied by tying a bandana, T-Shirt, or virtually any cloth, to cover your nose and mouth. According to studies quoted in the WHO report of June 5, 2020,* comparing the effectiveness of different types of cloth facial coverings:
Specifically listed was a handkerchief covering (bandana) with filtration of 1.1% of particulate matter. We start to see that the mandate isn’t really concerned with reducing our viral outputs but literally covering our faces as a sort of vote in support of the pandemic panic and acceptance of State authority.
Volunteers of the Seattle Truth Network have no intention of insulting or belittling those who wear masks, we would only encourage them to inform themselves of the facts and weigh the potential risks vs. the potential benefit to others. We support their rights as well.
